I'm in the process of rebuilding this 92 Celica with a 5speed and 4AFE. I dropped off the head for decking before the holidays and he just called to say it was ready. They told me it was necessary to take off 11 one thousandths (.011) in order to square it up. He said that was enough that it wouldn't seal a gasket and that he expected it to be OK going forward.

So, those of you who have needed a decking, is .011 normal? It seems sort of high, but I want to get your thoughts.

after getting home tonight and going thru the chilton's manual, it appears that the specification is .002 which will not require any decking -- at least thats what chilton says, and he's pretty smart.

Anway, almost 6 times the limit, i guess .011 is ok.

I also found the reason for the car overheating and warping in the first case -- it appears that 1 set of fans is actually disconnected -- So, i'll have to work on that after we put this all back together...
