need help 5sfe

Ok, I have a problem with my car. I'm learning my mecanic on my celica and I'm having some poblems. My english is really rusty so please be patient.

I bought my celica 91 gts in august. I knew about the trouble but still the engine is going well except for the intermitent problem. Since august, I changed ISC, ignition pack, radiator(and the throttle body has been cleaned out). Its going better already but still the same stupid problem that keeps annoying me.
When I'm driving, everything goes fine, if a put my feet on the clutch or in neutral, when stopping at a red light, stop or whatever, the car tryes to die but doesn't (people told me that the idle should be at around 850rpm and mine is at 1200rpm. When I put my foot on the clutch, it goes down to around 750rpm and it bucks and tries to choke)

I don't know what it is and I want to fix the problem.
Someone has an idea???
I changed the ISC this week. Is there an ajustement on it or I just put it in and leave it like it is?

The only thing I did'nt change is the gaz filter because I have trouble getting it out of there. It seems to be stuck and the cap rotor seems to be new.

I don't think the problem comes from those two things. Every time y touch at something electrical, the problem seems to change each time.

Could it be the TPS???

did u adjust timing?
Fuel filter can be an issue if it hasnt been changed in the life of the car..it is a bitch to get to since its below and behind the intake manifold.

So when you are are stopped it's ok until you hit the clutch? And when you use electrical equipment its a heavy drain on the RPM? This sounds like either your alternator or the connection from your ignition coil to the spark plugs (ie distributor and spark plug wires). If the alternoator connection is fine and you dont hear any weird noises from it...try seeing if u need a new distributor cap and rotor, make sure your wire connections arent corroded.

Mine is on the drivers side

When the car is in neutral or the feet on the clutch, both do the same thing.
Heres a video I took with my cellphone.

Im going to call tomorow for the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. I'll put some new one just to make sure.

Go Canadian Tire and buy a can (or two) of throttle body cleaner. Remove the intake and clean the throttle body with it. Make sure you spray into all the holes around it, especially the large one at the bottom. Look for a rubber plug on top of the throttle body. Remove it and you'll see the idle adjust screw. I guess you know what to do with it.

The throttle body has been removed and cleaned out and I did put a can of intake cleaner and it didn't change anything.

All the vaccums are going to be changed tomorow, distributor cap and rotor too but I really don't think its the problem.

Coudn't it be a temperature sensor???Seems to be doing it when the car is at fonctionning temperature.

I don't really understand the pictures in my book . The engine is 5SFE. If I look at the picture and engine its ok but if I look for sensors I can't seem to find a picture that is the same as mine. I'll take some pictures tomorow. I don't know what the guy did with the car but i'm starting to think its weird.

After a week I found the problem. The guy that had the car mixed up all the vaccums. For now the car is going fine but still have a little problem. When I start the car, the engine is running at 1000rpm and when its hot, its goes up to 1400rpm, give a little hit on the gaz and then goes back down to 1000rpm. Someone knows what it is???

The problem you describe still sounds like a gunked-up throttle body. I know you said you've cleaned the tb at least once, but if the idle is high until you blip the throttle, it's a sticking ISC or other throttle body linkage. Maybe it's possible something isn't dirty, it's actually worn-out?

I had to put a stronger spring on my throttle linkage with old 87 Celica GT. It wouldn't come back far enough. So the car would idle at various speeds. I had to kick it down like a carb choke. The linkage shaft going into the throttle body was worn and stiff and needed to be replaced all together. That was the easiest fix for me.

The car did it for 2 days and for now, the idle seems to be stable, the choke is at 1400rpm and goes down to 1000rpm at the operating temperature and stays there in neutral

No bocking, no staling, no vibration,no noise. I have the impression that the engine isn't running but it is.
