convertible motor

1995 celica GT convertible

ok i have never worked on a convertible at all in my life.... so heres the deal.... i installed a new convertible frame and tested it out... well top will go down but when i try to close the top all you hear are the motors running and the top try's to go up... it moves a little way and then you just have to help it from there...... after the initial getting it going it will go by itself???

anyone run into something like this... i am thinking the motors are just about shot?!!

The gear on the motor is lose. Usually due to overload at some time and the shear pin is broken. Take the motor out and replace the pin. Not sure if you can order them from Toyota.

Wow, same problem here with my top, glad to find one easy fix, hopefully mine is the same problem. Where you able to buy the part at a toyota dealer? I was wondering because the tops were installed in Cali, not Japan...

Thanks

i am thinking of ordering part number 95755A127 extra strenth steel coiled pins from McMaster-Carr. I need to verify the 3/32" diameter first. I think this is correct.
