The thing you circled in red is a isolator.... Just keeps the CV from vibrating.

To take off the plate, you either hit the shaft with a hammer or take it down to pep boys to press it off and on to your new CV. It'd cost maybe $40. Not a big deal.

That's all I got buddy.

So how did it go? I just bought this car and both outer boots are ripped. It's not making a noise, so I'm going to try and replace the boots only.

Looks like the old and new bearings need to be pressed off. Once the bracket slips off, install it on the new shaft and have the new bearing pressed back on. Find an auto parts store or machine shop that has a press. The job is easy and should not take a lot of time. Don’t use a hammer or you will damage the new bearing..
