Exhaust too loud

Been lurking for a while, first time post.

Ive got an 89 Celica GTS. I just got a 2.25" cat back with resonator and magnaflow put on. I was under the impression that it would sound nice, not much louder than stock - man was I wrong. Considering it was not exactly a cheap setup, I am not too happy, and want to shut it up and try and recoup some of my money. Would it work to put an OEM style muffler onto the larger diameter pipe? I presume it would cut down the noise significantly, but would it have negative impacts (as opposed to just making it more stock) Thanks for any input...

maybe you can get a silencer piece for your muffler

well what kind of magnaflow did you go with?

is it a straight through? a turbo style? what?

And you could go with a standard OE style muffler, depending on what brand your local autoplaces carry, they often times have a book for their exhaust, usually in the back there are usually just general ones where you can find part #s for the right inlet/outlet, size, offset, etc.

Ya those tend to make the sound worse and when i say tend to I mean they do.

well a magnaflow system is a performance add on....usually associated with a louder tone.... i am sure if you put a resi on it before the muffler like most of the stock systems have i am sure it would quiet it up a bit...

well if you would be interested in trading for some stcok parts off a 90 gt 5sfe to put on I might be able to work something out as long as all the parts are swappable.

i've grown so old and so out of them loud exhaust system. back then when i was younger it use to be so cool but now it's killing my ears especially if i'm in like a honda or something..
