NOiSE PROBLEM W/ 2000, HELP PLZ?

Hi there. I have 2000 GT-S, bought it used back in '03. I hear a really loud rattling noise when accelerating, or if I stay at say 1500 RPM or so, and disappears when I go above 5000 RPM. This is in any gear for me. I've taken her into Toyota and they totally brushed me off. When I bought the car, Toyota replaced the tranny and clutch for me, so those were brand new from '03. After they replaced the tranny and clutch, I babied it for a while, making sure I broke it in okay. BUT, the sound was still there, and still is to this day. I've taken it to a couple mechanics but they are baffled. They've taken everything apart except the engine, and could not find the problem/cause. Anyone else having this problem or heard of it? Plz help if you can, I GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks for reading, guys and gals.

Aloha,

JUDy

Exhaust heat shields?
Exhaust piping?
Exhaust manifold covers?

My mechanic actually took everything apart, excluding the engine, and the noise was still there. So he suspects it's something in the engine itself. The sound isn't like plastic shaking, so it's definitely not any of the shields. It's almost like something stuck in a valve or a valve not fluttering correctly... I have no clue... *sad face* Thanks for the reply.

My car's engine developed a really loud knocking noise because of a stuck lifter. The lobe on the camshaft was striking the stuck lifter cap and made one hell of a noise. Almost sounded like a broken rod. I ended up replacing the engine afterall it had, 240,000 miles on it at the time.

I hope your mechanic finds the issue and it's an inexpensive fix.

Yeah, I suppose these things don't last forever... So I had a freak accident happen a while back w/ my flywheel, which I had thought was the problem. So I was merging onto 85 towards Mountain View and the rattling just gets really loud, and my accelerator was sorta vibrating. So I went into neutral, and the sound stopped, but then when I tried to get back into gear, it wouldn't go. So I had to coast off the freeway, onto the nearest exit and park on the side of the road. I shut off the engine and popped the hood to see if I could find anything obvious, u know? Yeah, nothing. So I got back into the car and tried to start her, but she wouldn't even turn over! So I had her towed and when my mechanic looked at her he was like WTF... When Toyota was messing w/ the flywheel, they didn't tighten the bolts. So... my flywheel came loose and broke in half!! So I thought that was the end of that god forsaken noise, but I was wrong... And randomly, last year, the noise went away for about a week. Then came back... Obviously there's no serious problem, just so goddamn annoying!!! HAHA well thanks again for your input. I'm actually in the process of selling my car, as is. I'm gunna give it about a month or so and if no luck, I'm bringing it back to Toyota. *shaking head*

ok so i think its the noisy valves that the engine just naturaly makes.

but also dont drive for long periods of time without checking your oil. 2zz and 1zz tend to have oil consumption issues. they eat oil. i add every 25oo miles and change every 5000 thanks to mobil 1 lol.

engine says 5w10w for oil but i use 10w30w for mine cause of the 100,000 plus miles. ask around. maybe its an easy fix. i have the same problem not too loud but you can hear it. as long as there are no check engine light

I hope it's an easy fix. The sound is pretty loud, though. I tune it out w/ the music, but w/out the music, it's pretty obnoxious and extremely annoying. Thanks for your help and reply. I will definitely ask my mechanic to check out the valves for me. =D
