Need Help Replacing Starter

Hey everyone! ok so here's my problem.. i have an 88 celica gts that im trying to replace the starter in.. this particular starter sits under the exhaust manifold. we got the old one out, but i cant get the new one back in (we didnt take the manifold off) the way it sits right now, the starter is back in the hole, but its upside down and i cant seem to turn it around.. is there an easier way? i really dont want to take off the exhaust manifold..... HELP!!!

You shouldn't have to take the ex. mani. off to get the starter back on. Don't know what to tell you other than just try to maneuver it as best you can. It should go on; I did it and can't recall any special tricks I've used.

*Make sure the battery is unhooked, you don't want any chance of sparks.

thx my husband got it in.. he took the heat shield off.. when it was in place, it didnt look like there was room for the heat shield but side by side the old starter and the new one were identical.. battery was out of the car, thx tho

Yeah, with the heat shield off, you can get a better view of what you're doing. After you mentioned it, I recalled I did that too. Glad you got it in.
