The Gen 1 (Dec 1970 to July 1977) has only the usual rust problems of old cars.
- the rear of the boot (trunk) lid.
- the bottom of the doors
- the bottom rear of the front guards (fenders)
- the spare wheel well
- around the window seals (if the seals are old and hard)
If you've ever restored a Mustang then you already know the places to look for.
Sounds like a fuel problem.
Remove the hose between the fuel pump and the carburettor and point the hose into a fuel container.
Have a friend try to start it for a couple of seconds.
If fuel comes out then the problem is in the carburettor (cut-off solenoid, jets, float, float valve, etc)
If no fuel comes out then the problem could be the pump, the lines, the filter or the tank.
Which model do you have?
RA20, RA21, RA22, RA24 or RA29?
- Stepho ('77 Australian spec RA28 liftback)
