Gen1 Help on my new project please

its a nice car
very little rust damage
(although i would like to get some advice on what locations rust the fastest so i can do a check on it)
but anyways, it has been sitting for the past 9 years. ran fine before that
(except a slave cylinder, but that wouldnt affect anything but moving)

i put new points, spark plugs, ignition coil, spark plug wires. to fix the spark problem
the engine isnt seized because i can take off the air filter top and put gas straight into the carb and it will run for a brief second.
:also: when i put gas straight into the carb, it has uneasy motion and like this slight knocking sound. i dont know if that would settle down once it got past start up and into idle but its worth mentioning

i need like a list of things i can check into.
starting with the easiest/cheapest first *please* so if its something easy i dont waste money (i will never waste money on this car anyways since i plan on keeping for a long time 10-15 years)

thanks

The Gen 1 (Dec 1970 to July 1977) has only the usual rust problems of old cars.
- the rear of the boot (trunk) lid.
- the bottom of the doors
- the bottom rear of the front guards (fenders)
- the spare wheel well
- around the window seals (if the seals are old and hard)
If you've ever restored a Mustang then you already know the places to look for.

Sounds like a fuel problem.
Remove the hose between the fuel pump and the carburettor and point the hose into a fuel container.
Have a friend try to start it for a couple of seconds.
If fuel comes out then the problem is in the carburettor (cut-off solenoid, jets, float, float valve, etc)
If no fuel comes out then the problem could be the pump, the lines, the filter or the tank.

Which model do you have?
RA20, RA21, RA22, RA24 or RA29?
