'85 GT-S Convertible engine prob.

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this site, but I like how everybody knows so much about the important things re: Toyota's. My car is an '85 GT-S Convertible, my third one in about 14 years. I guess I can't get her out of my system. I'm having an engine prob. with the one I just bought. It has a standard 22-RE, no mods. of any kind. Recently when I start the car, it's cold here now in New York if that helps. After the first 1 or 2 seconds when it starts, the starter motor tries to keep running and the engine runs real rough for about 15-20 seconds until it smoothes out. After the car is warm, it will start normally. Except when it does, the idle seams really low until I give it gas to stable it out. If anyone has a clue as to what this could be I would appreciate any input. Thanx

I finally saw your response. Thanx for that. You were right on the money. My fuel filter was so bad, that almost nothing got through it. Once I changed it, she was smoothe sailing. Cause I know the 22-RE's are usually bulletproof, if you change the oil and such. Again it was like night & day, thanx my friend. Pat
