Check the fuse for the instruments.
Might also be the ground wires for the instruments but that normally does weird things to the alternator light.

HP:
Bigger exhaust, bigger cam, Weber 32/36 carburettor (requires adapter plate).
Put a 20R head on the 22R block (raises the compression ratio).
Change the diff ratio to trade off top speed for acceleration.

Take your 22R or 22RE block and put a 20R head on it,9.5:1 comp. pistons, any more compression and your lible to warp the aluminum head, headers,at least 2-1/2 inch exhaust,if your set up for fuel injection get 20% over stock injectors, any more than 20% and you have to change out your ecu for one that is calculated for the injector size,if your carbed 2 side draft carbs work best, you may have to adjust the Air Flow Meter,it is located between the air filter and the throttle body, cut the seal with a razor knife and lift off the lid, inside is a toothed adjustment wheel with a clip holding it in place with a screw, mark a referance point with a felt tip pin on the adjustment wheel, hold the wheel and loosen the set screw holding the wheel, turn the wheel counter-clockwise to richen the mixture, clockwise to lean it out, when done adjusting, seal the lid back on with silicon sealant-DONT LET DIRT OR WATER GET INSIDE AIR FLOW METER,IT DOES NOT LIKE IT!You may have to get a second elec. fuel pump to supply the needed fuel, run it in series with the factory in-tank pump.If your carbed, port the intake and exhaust ports. As for oversized cams, don't go over 280 duration, the engine doesn't like it,try a 256 duration-something that peaks at idle to 4500 rpm.Remember more cam is NOT always a good thing. Do this and your celica will scream,I've done it to my 84 celica and it leaves "high performance" Mustangs in the dust!
