Now the clutch makes a popping noise when I take off in 1st gear except when I rev the RPM's up really high when I take off. The service engine light is going on and off every day or 2 as well. Does anyone know what this could be?

Couple of possibilites- fluid, tranny goin bad, umproper iinstallation.... what ever it is, a popping noise is never a good thing. stop driving it like that.
