Gen5 anyone know what this is??

just bought a 90 GT-S and i notice when i accelerate above 4,500RPM you get a whistling sound, my friends Mazda protage makes the same sound under accleration above the same RPMs he said that its because the car was drivin in to the high RPMs alot when it was new causing the air box to shrink and whistle or its the main vacuum line, now i know the air box probably isent the problem because there is no vaccum in the air box. anyways if anyone else has seen this or know what it might be and could shed some light on it that would be sweet thanks guys

That's BS.
If it's RPM relate, I'd check the belt/pulley first.
If you are sure that it's the wind/air noise, check vacuum lines and check if there is any exhaust leak.
Also, if it is speed related, it wouldn't hurt to see if the side mirrors fit OK.
They'll make noise if they are not fit properly.

My 91 did that and it was a vacuum line. Mechanic replaced cat and problem whistle went away.

My 92 5S-FE whistles, but it's coming from the rear of the car. With the hood down, I stand outside the car, but put my foot inside and on the gas peddal and rev it way up.

I believe my prob is in the CAT and therefore it sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. Or possibly the muffler. Either way, it's in the exhaust system in my case.

Interesting post 95GT. This one has bugged me for years now. This summer that CAT is getting gutted.

I know that some celicas whistle past a certain point is there a crack in your intake piping anywhere? If its that rubber piping like mine and has a crack it sucks in through the crack at a certain rpm and sounds like when you blow through one of those rippled straws you get in those reusable cups you get at the fair...
