USA Weber Carb in 1977

I am putting a Weber 34 DGEC carburetor into a 1977 Celica with a 20-R engine and I was wondering if anyone has used a Weber and have any advice or info on the installation process. Were there any things I should watch out for or keep in mind? I will also be switching out the jets etc with a high altitude kit.

Carbs should *always be re-jetted when put onto a different engine.
The Weber 32/26 is the normal one used for 18R/20R engines.
It normally requires an adapter plate.
I can't remember how it differs from a Weber 43 DGEC.

Gen1 Thanks

Thanks. I am getting an adapter plate and the new jets with the carb. I am not sure of the differences from the 32/36 myself.

Have you switched out a carb, did you have any difficulties? I have heard things about fuel pressures.

I play mainly with the Weber 45DCOE sidedraft models myself but I don't think fuel pressure will give you any problem.

your stock pump should be fine, but you may want to buy a lil cheapo napa 3-5psi pump if yours gives you any probs.

the only hard part ive ever had was buying one used and not getting the correct throttle linkage, other then the pain of converting to a cable ive loved every minute of my 32/36

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks Guys,
I have replaced my old stock fuel pump with the same model a while ago so it should work for me then. But i will keep the napa pump in mind if i ever need another.

I was hoping for a delivery yesterday, but no luck, so I am hoping I will have my carb and new jets when i get home from work tomorrow.

Gen1 Update

There was a delay in getting my carb delivered , but I finally got it in and running this weekend . All I did to it so far is adjust the idle, and take it for a short (500 yd) test drive. It did OK, and much better than the original crab. I don't have to pump the gas to start it.

I haven't done any other tuning yet, because I have the new jets to replace, and at an altitude of 6000+ ft. I know I will need the smaller jets installed. I don't have any jet replacement instructions. Now, I can see where the idle jets are on the sides, .060 installed now, I have .050 and .045 in my kit, but I am not sure where the mains are I have .125 and .120 to choose from. Are they inside?

What procedure should I use to do these? Idle and main together? Idle and test, then main and test or visa versa? And is there any call to mix and match ie .060 and .045?

I assume I should start with the smallest diameters first due to my elevation.

Any thoughts guys?
