hey guys i have a 91 celica power steering question.

hey guys im james!! i just recently purchased a 91 celica st for a point 1 point b car and i have a questio. my power steering is making alota noice and i can hear its starting to go. id just rather get rid of the powersteering all together cause on every car ive ever had i run into problems with it. is there a custom belt i can get anywhere that is shorter and bypasses the power steering pully?
any other suggestions?

thanks for your help ahead of time guys

well... i say put some fluid in there, and if the fluid is all there, then replace the pump...

I dont recommend taking it off the car because its a Celica, that car will go 300,000 miles and keep going, drive it till the wheels fall off, and its a hellova lot easier to have it....

One of my customs was a styling car that i removed the power steering on, and it gets to be a little much on a DD, and it was a BAD decision, so i keep my P/S on ALL my cars...

Yeah the ST is light enough that you shouldn't really miss it. Autozone or advance should have a shorter belt just look around

whoops wasnt paying attention, you don't need another belt just take the PS belt off

taking the system out would be the bigger head ache because its in the back of the bay, and you gotta weave around all kinds of crap to get the bolts out.....

lucky thats what i was thinking. ive had a couple nissans that i junked the power steering and it didnt matter. but tn says i should keep it. ill take a better look tomaro and see what the problem is and if its easy ill fix it and if not the ps is gone.

every car i have ever owned has always had at least 1 ps issues in the time i had it so now adays if its a light car and it gives me any problems my first thought is. f the power steering.

lucky i have another question. im new to toyotas in general and i was wondering whats a celica stx turbo? i though the models were st, gt, gt-s, and all trac turbo.

I have a Celica STX that I put together a turbo kit for. Fun DD for around town but it's not a fast car by any means.

toy couldnt i just get a shorter belt that didnt go to the ps pully. cause the belt the powersterring belt is the same as the alternator correct? or is the ps belt connected to the ac compressor? i took a quick glance and i saw 2 belts on the motor i didnt see what went to what, but im guessing the ps is the same belt as the alt.

I think around 40% of Celicas of that year were ST's, I really don't know what makes it an STX, but thats what the Toyota manuals and the badges say so meh.

40% st, but how many STX, because i havnt seen or heard of those... i might need to add to my car collection.....

And i didnt see the "what are you smoking" part, but if you do your research you will find that only 4 Supra MKIV's were produced with a stock TRD widebody kit, and all other are cheap knockoffs, and one of the guys in Super Street owns 2 of them....

He has the 4a, and you can just loosen the power steering tensioner, take off the alternator/ac belt and then remove the power steering belt. It's a 20 minute job easy
