Question about rev limiter

Hey ya'll I have a 93 Celica Dirt track car that the rev limiter is really screwing me on cuase it hits the rev limiter in the corners when the car downshifts to second then it won't let it shift back into 3rd until I let off the gas ALOT, how can I get rid of the rev limiter or what else can I do cause the car can hang with anyone on the track until I hit the limiter but then they just blow past me. I am not familure with imports as I have never even wanted one but this class is a 4cyl FWD class. Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
