Speedometer problem!?!!

i have a 91 gts, and my speedometer is cutting in and out. it will just drop to zero out of no where, but when i give it the gas and make the car jerk it will kick back up and work til i let go of the gas. what could it be, please help me

If possible, pull it out and check the gear inside.

I don't have the same model as yours but they often come loose at the top where it screws into the back of the speedometer.
The cable is only holding on by a millimetre or so and occasionally jumps out (ie the big screw is still holding on but the cable inside is not grabbing).
A bump in the road and it comes grabs again.

Tighten the screw up again (finger tight only).
