Here is my friend inspecting the new purchase that I have just completed. The door plate state Dec 1972 but the emission decal displays 1973. Which is correct?

both

the rest of the world goes by build date for model year.

the us goes by the release date, so most cars are a year older then they are called.

example:

that car in austrailia would be a 72, here in the states its a 73

I would say its a 1972, the air vents on the hood look different than mine in a 1973.

Regards from Guatemala!

The model year starts in August of a given year. That's why a '73 could have a production date of 8/72, but still be a '73.

Like the other have said, American marketing calls it by the end of the model year (eg August 1972 to August 1973 is called 1973) while the rest of the world calls it by the begining (eg August 1972 to August 1973 is called 1972).
To find the real date of manufacture, get the body frame number (aka body serial number) and look up this chart.

Note: the sell date will be a few months after to allow for shipping.

Thanks, It appears that it is a 1972 by vin number. It was between the RA21 Series: 074 for Dec 1972 and the 081 from Jan 1973. Thats cool. Again thanks for the inputs.

Purchased a 8-RC and my plans are to clean it up disassemble and harvest the block for a rebuild, Its in poor condition from the first look at it, but the blocks are getting harder to comeby if you're not in the California area. 8-RC and 18-RC are being sold as scrap and I still require three more blocks for 18-RG conversions. But I have time and a few friends in the right places so we will see how this pans out. Pictures at a later date.

I had to pick this one up from Erie, Pa. It was sitting on the side of this guys house, who knows for how long. The disassemble will see if it pays for itself. (98 Miles away)
