Code p01717: time for new MAF?

2000 gts celica auto

So my sister's celica is throwing a cel(p0171: system too lean) while she was driving on the freeway(freeze data~60mph) and it's a soft code. The car felt jerky(rpm laggy, power serge, etc, all the good symtom of bad maf)

i cleaned the MAF and check all the vaccum lines, erase the code and the same code came back like a week later. So what's the next step? new maf
new o2 sensor?

thanks all

does the car have a k&n air filter or a filter that requires oil if so most likely a MAF if you can check plugs and wires and injectors the easiest way to do that is to take a stethoscope to the injectors if you cant take a volt meter or test light to check pulsing (check the ground side of the injector)

if these are all good its most likely going to be the MAF o2's rarely go out.
if you can check the o2 if it is good you will see it travel between 2 and -1.5v

if you can keep us updated
thanks

When you clean the sensor wires make sure your cleaning the right ones. The wire you can see easily at the bottom of the sensor is the intake air temp wire which is not the one that needs to be cleaned. The air flow sensing wires are actually up inside the tube housing. Just thought id mention it since ive seem a few people make that mistake. You can see them if you look in there with a flashlight.
