Sorry for the newb post for my 2nd post but I'm looking for the year range that the 22r and 22re were used in the Celica....any help or direction would be most appreciated...thanks
There were 2 different 22RE's used in the '84-'85 changeover. The '84 had an early style 22R that used a vacuum advance distributor and no knock sensor, and the '85 had the late style 22RE engine and EFI system that used electronic spark control and knock sensor.
The 22R was introduced in the Celica in August 1980 (US/Canadian spec, other countries differ).
The upgrade to the EFI 22R-E came in August 1982 (again US/Canadian spec).
The 22R was also available in the Pickup until sometime in the late 90's. http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/celprod.htm#cel43pr
