Turbo Time

Ok well I have a 1998 Toyota Celica GT with a 5S-FE engine. I'm going to turbo. I work at a performance shop so i can do all the work no problem (custom exhaust work, all installation, stuff like that) so that's covered. I'm really looking to pull at least 10 PSI boost but would love to see maybe 12-14. I know im gonna need my turbo, intercooler, exhaust setup, fuel system upgrades, and upgrades in the engine. Here are my questions: 1. What engine upgrades will I need to get 10+ PSI boost out of this? I'm sure on pistons and rods but what else? 2. Will I need any drivetrain upgrades? It's a 5 speed manual. 3. I have heard that the 3S-GTE engine is a great choice for my car and fits right in. Would i be a better idea to just swap my engine out for a 3S-GTE and upgrade that and steal the drivetrain for that too? 4. And lastly, what other little sensors and such will i be needing?

Like I said I work at a Performance shop meaning they do forced induction work.. exclusively... I'm just looking for some opinions on the celica specifically. I know the can help me make my stock engine better than any swap but it could be more cost efficient to swap it out.

Thanks for your help guys.

You might want to check the 3rd gen Camry forum. There are a couple of threads stickied at the top dealing with this. It is actually Camry stuff, but it is applicable. I believe that they suggest the 3S over the 5S. It does give great info on all the stuff you would need for a turbo upgrade.

Ok, i've read and read and talked to various people and decided this is what i'm going to do. I'm going to buy a 3S-GTE engine. Just the engine. I have a 98 celica GT with a 5S-FE in it and it's FWD 2wd. What transmission should I use with the 3S-GTE engine and will the engine drop right into my car or will there be a little modding neccesary? I think that's All I really need to know then it's off to parts searching (full fuel system mod, might get a better turbo, custom downpipe and exhaust, all turbo acceseries, spark plugs, wires, MSD ignition, tuning program, brakes upgrade, rims, strut upgrades, body kit, pistons and rods, might upgrade crank, port and polish block, and many more things. Look out credit card company here i come!)
