newbie with a problem

ok so I just bought a 91 Stx from my brother. The distributer went out in it and he just let it sit in the garage for a little over a year with a full tank of gas. I put a new dist. in and ran it down to half tank, added some lucas, and topped it off with premium gas. My problem is that I cannot get the engine to rev past 3 grand. It acts like it is hitting the rev limiter and the engine light will start flashing if I hold it there. Any thoughts?

does anybody have a diagram as to where the sensors are located at? This is my first import and my last engine didn't have sensors.

Maybe try and pull some codes to see what is causing the check engine light to turn on?
