Unhappy 2000 Celica GT - Please Help

I recently bought a used 2000 Celica GT from my friend's Dad's Dealership. The car ran fine for a few weeks but developed an engine rattle after the first couple days of owning it. Then about a week later, I was driving down the freeway and either I blew a piston, broke a rod, or something along those lines. Long story short, I didn't get the warranty when I bought the car, and the engine is currently being replaced with an 03 GT engine for $1500 and the dealer is offering 300 towards it. What should I do, if there is anything, to get the guy to pay for the repairs in full?

Details - It has 130k miles on it, bought it for 5995, and the dealer talked me out of getting the warranty on it because he said his mechanics said it was in tip top shape and wouldn't have problems within the 3 months.

Please tell me I'm not SOL

Hate to brake it to you but you were dealing with a salesman. Even if it was your friends dad, a salesman is a salesmen and will try and talk you out of any thing that might cost them more than they have to pay. Sorry to say but you are SOL. should have got the warrenty.

you may want to renegotiate terms with the dealer. Perhaps they will put forward a small bit more toward the repair.
