VVTi 1ZZ Oil Burning / Engine Reconditioning

Hello all!

Unfortunately I'm not very mechanically savvy and I'm having some problems with a Celica I bought a few months ago.

Its a year 2000, 140bhp VVTi which looks fantastic... but it is drinking oil!

At the moment it is using around a litre of 5/30w per 300 miles!!!

Today i visited a dealership in Preston to talk with their service department about the problem who were only able to suggest buying a new engine. The car has done 110,000 miles and drives fantastically with no reason to suggest that the oil use is affecting performance or fuel economy.

Since experiencing the problems I've read plenty of articles on the internet about problems with piston rings and oil drain holes in the piston which can get clogged up with sludge (preventing the oil from flowing effectively). However, I've yet to find a suitable solution.

Does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this problem? Ideally I would like to get the engine repaired rather than going to the trouble of replacing it. Can anyone suggest anywhere in the the UK (preferably in the North West) that may be able to recondition the engine? And if so, would this prevent the same thing happening again in the future.

I only paid £3100 for the car so spending around £1000 would be fairly affordable, but the dealer I visited today said that they would only ever be able to supply a brand new engine at a cost of around £3000.

I'd really appreciate any advice on this issue.

Many thanks

Martin

At least it looks nice!......

check your pan gasket
if it has a bleu colour exhaust coming out that means your burning oil
and front or rear seal
(7th gens are popular for burning oil)
