Celica St 89

Hey all im new to the fourm, just wnated to say hello to everyone in this community.

I recently bought a 89celica st 5sp, the car runs and picks up good. The only problem i am having is with the engine. It can pick up real good but then when i gas the car it don't pick up its very slow. For instant, my friend has a and when he gas/floors the car you can hear the engine pick up and "ROAR", while mines is very weak.

So if anyone can help me please tell me how or what i need to do to have my engine running good or what other goodies i can add to the car for its performance suspension etc.
