3rd Generation Question On 83 celica turbo

Alright my friend had given me a greddy t3 turbo for my birthday and i was wondering if it would be alot or little work to put it into my 83 celica Gts

22re 5 spd runs fine but looking to put an new rebuilt 22re into it with the tranny i just bought.

should i look for one with forged pistons or did they never make a turbo celica or supra in this gen?

and if it does it should work with a flowmaster right?

With lots of work and money, you can turbo your 22re, toyota even built a 22r-te that was turbocharged from the factory. Now just cause you can do something does not mean you should. It would be alot of work to +t your engine for little gain. The 22re is a great engine, however it is not a very suitible performance platform. IE longstroke bad for high reving and sohc 8v bad for flow. By the the way this project would be very extensive in work and parts and you would still be slow.

If you are serious about tuning your celica, you should consider an all out turbo engine swap along the lines of 7m-gte, 1jz-gte, or 2jz-gte (listed in order of cheapest to best performing). Your car is a perfect canidate for one of those swaps.

It sounds like you got lots of learning to do before taking on a project like that and expect to spend lots and lots of money and then some more money. Custom cars are an expensive habbit my friend. Goodluck in your quest for speed.

I agree with streetrider, the T3 would not be an easy or cheap project to bolt to the 22R-E. People have made quite powerful engines from them but they weren't cheap or easy.
Toyota did make turbo's for the that generation Celica but they were used the the 1800cc 3T-GTE (TA63) and 2070cc 4T-GTE (TA64) engines and were Japan only. The 22R didn't get a turbo option until after the Celica stopped using that engine. The turbo 22R-TE was designed as a low revving, stump pulling engine for pickup trucks - not exciting.

But a rebuilt 22R-E with a decent 2" to 2.5" exhaust will still make an '83 GTS move well.
The 22R is a good, torquey engine.
