Aftermarket deck install, No sound.....

I am trying to install a Sony aftermarket deck in my 2000 Celica GTS. It has the stock 6 speaker system. I pulled the middle dash apart fairly easy and have the stock deck out. I went to plug in my wire harness that i bought for the aftermarket deck and it never matched up with the one from factory...So i went back to where i bought the harness and they told me i must have an amp in the car somewhere so they gave me a different harness. It fit good and when i went to play a CD or radio it doesn't matter i have no sound at all. I looked for an amp and i heard it was on the passenger side in the dash(just a little metal box) well there is not one there thats for sure. Everything is plugged in right it lights up and i have power just no sound. Then i got fed up with it and went to put my stock deck back in and it has no power....It doesn't really make sense to me. Is there something i have to do? or not do? not sure and i know im not the first person to install a deck in a 2000 celica.

check fuses... I don't know.... I usually have someone who knows what they are doing wire it up. I'm sure you can take it down to an audio store and have them wire it up for a fraction of a full install. Just cut yourself a deal since you did most of the work.
