1991 Celica GT with 3S-GTE swap (already done), a few questions
1) Transmission question: I have a 1991 Celica GT FWD that has been converted to use a JDM Generation 3 3S-GTE (turbo) engine. It's stock, going to stay that way, but eventually I'll need to replace my transmission. Right now it's using the 5S-FE transmission. I'd really like to know what sort of transmission upgrade I could do that would require minimal work (drop-in replacement, I hope). I'm only interested in 5 and 6 speed transmissions. If anything other than just swapping them out is required, list as much information as you can.
2) Temperature gauge question: When I bought this car from the person that performed the swap, he said "the temperature gauge never worked", and he has an aftermarket gauge in the center console. Recently, while my brother was swapping my clutch out and fixing a few random problems for me, when I got my car back the aftermarket gauge wasn't working anymore either. I'm wondering if you guys know anything about where these gauges would be connecting in the engine bay, so I can start to follow the wires and figure out what might be wrong. I'm not much of a gearhead, but I'm trying. I could take this to a mechanic and ask them to look into the temperature gauges, but I'm betting it's not in the place you'd see it on a stock 91 celica, and they are likely not familiar with the 3S-GTE.
EDIT: both gauges read the lowest readings, not the highest.
3) Turbo timer/boost controller question: Any recommended for the 3S-GTE/CT20B? Are they difficult to install?
4) A/C question: my car has A/C under the hood, but the "hoses aren't ran" according to the previous owner. I mentioned this to a mechanic and he said "usually that's because after an engine swap they wont fit". Before I start looking into that, is there anyone that's done a 3S-GTE swap into a FWD 5th gen celica that can tell me if they were able to hook their A/C up successfully?
EDIT:
5) Mechanic question: Anyone know of a mechanic in the Jackson, MS area that would know how to work/tune on a car like mine?
6) Suspension question: Does the 1991 Celica GT have coilovers? struts? shocks? Not sure how to check (not a gearhead, as mentioned).
I have heard of V6 Camery transmissions being used as upgrades for 3sgte swaps, for the temp guage you could have some loose wiring or something, faulty temp sensor, could be the wire grounding out somewhere, but then i think the gauge would be in the highest position, Stock alltrac A/C lines should work fine, as for the rest youre gunna have to wait for the experts to chime in...
any of the FWD tranny's from the 5th gen ceilca should be fine and straight forward, no real "upgrades" per se, just some different gearing options. No 6 speeds as far as I know.
Turbo timer and boost controllers are pretty standard installs. I can't really think of any TT that's better than another, just look up a few to see what options they have and choose one that you like the sounds of. I run a twosrus.com boost controller on my 3rd gen and have been happy. It's just a manual controller, so it's up to you if you want to shell out the extra for an electronic one.
You should have coil over shocks in fron and coil over struts in the rear I believe.

Any idea where to acquire one of those V6 Camry transmissions?
You want to use the camry V6 tranny or MR2 Turbo Tranny. Unless your short on cash then just get another 5S-FE tranny but you'll run into the same issue again. The V6 tranny are a little easier to install as it's already been setup for FWD while the MR2 will require a small modification.

Is there a guide somewhere that explains what the "small modification" is? Any idea what the transmission code is for the camry? I _think_ the mr2 is E153, but I don't know about the camry.
EDIT: Would the alltrac transmission work? (i'm just FWD)
EDIT2: Is there any way to build up the 5SFE transmission stronger so it can take the beating better?

no alltrac wouldnt work, its an all wheel drive tranny. and to be honest, the money you spend to build up your tranny would be WAAAAY more expensive than it would be to just buy one of the v6 camry trannys or the mr2.

Alright, good advice so far.. keep it rolling guys
there is a support bearing on the passenger side drive axle that bolts to the motor, you sound like you left the 4 cyl axles in it along with the trans, if you use a v6 trans the bracket-bearing asy wont fit up to the motor that fits onto the v6 axles and the v6 trans takes v6 axles so the axles are bigger and wont fit into the 4 cyl bracket-bearing asy, you need the 4 cyl bracket with the v6 sized bearing off an alltrac or mr2 turbo

For the camery trans, your cheapest place to look is at an autowreckers (they are rare though), MR2 tranny would be hard to find since no-one wants to get rid of em unless their MR2 was in an irrepairable collision, at least i wouldnt
