Gen1 1977 celica wiring Harness

I need to look into rewiring at least the engine wiring in my celica as they are very old and in bad shape. I also have trouble in wet weather at time, but does anyone know if you can get a new wiring harness or if not what is the best way to run your own wires and what are the guages of wires?

I would appreciate any help.

The wire gage for most circuits are 18; headlights, starter solenoid and horns are using 16, the wire insulation must be 90 degrees C rated

Here's some wiring diagrams for you
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...ng%20diagrams/

The Haynes Celica manual also has the diagram you want.

You car must have had a hard life.
My '77 liftback wires are still good even after 30 years in the Australian sun (think Californian weather on a hot day).

Ask your local auto electrician where to get the correct coloured wires (ie black with white stripe, blue with red stripe, etc).
It's a tedious job to replace them all but within the abilities of most patient people.
Buy a crimping tool, crimp the ends on really tight and then solder over them anyway.

Gen1 Thanks stepho

I actually have the Haynes manual (very valuable). Good call on looking for the color coded wires.

I bought my celica in washington state now i live in colorado (17 years), where it is dry and hot in the summer. And there is some "dry rot" type of cracking etc. Most of the wires i really think are OK but at some time before i got the car, somebody had did some hack job splicing that is in bad shape now, some of them being just plain too short. And my issue with trouble when it rains alot and i think something is grounding out then.

you might be able to scrounge wires and connectors from newer donor cars at a junkyard, the pickup and corona and almost the same wiring as a celica

I wouldn't bother with the wiring from a donor car since the wiring is probably equally worn. My suggestion, go to www.painlesswiring.com and look into one of their complete wiring kits for Hotrods. If you're not sure what you're doing and can afford it, find a good electrician to wire the car for you. That way you'll know it's done right and save yourself a lot of grief down the road.
