2000 celica gts overheating... help please

okay so my celica overheated and i just replaced the thermostat but when i start it and try to put antifreeze in the little catch can it won't go down, water doesnt seem to be going thru the hoses and it still overheats, the heater doesnt work either....

Not up on this car, what is the "little catch." Does it have a radiator cap?

Did the engine overheat before the T-stat change?

Did you install the T-stat with the spring inside the cylinder head or toward it?

Try squeezing the radiator hoses to get some of the air out.

If you don't think the coolant is circulating take out the T-stat, fill with distilled water then determine if the water circulates. If not look for clogged radiator, hoses, bad water pump.

Also make sure you are using the proper Toyota coolant. Here are coolant bleeding procedures for the celica.
