7g GT-X build journal

3p0 2001 GT-X*

It will receive a 6 bolt 4G63T motor swap. The motor will be stroked to 2.4L and a GT3572R Garret turbo will be in place in a custom long tubular manifold and a custom catback exhaust. A gm automatic transmission (5speed if I can source one and make it work.) with a GSX irs rear end. Fully caged and finished interior ready to lay waste to a 911 owner or the z06 owner alike.

Basically this will be a build to show that the Celica is a GREAT platform, which it is, but it's short commings are the fact that it's FWD and the motor be it 1zz or 2zz (in this situation 1zz) are just too expensive to make good numbers on and are not worth the effort. A Mitsubishi transplant will be in order for the simple fact that the 4g makes astounding power (my fab. and friend has a stock block pushing 550 to the wheels runs 131mph in the 1/4 mile) and is reliable enough (6bolt...no crankwalk) to withstand the front wheels comming off the ground in a drag race but still be able to hand people their losses in a road course. The Celica's aerodynamics make it slippery and great MPG will be expected and well the simple fact is this ia a Japanese Corvette in the making.

*Some of you will probably hate me for this but it has to be done.

Stage one, demolition and simple fab. So far, the antenna has been shaved as well as the rear wing. The wiring harness is out as is the whole interior except for support braces which would make the body flex and the steering shaft.

Before Halloween I should have the whole car stripped to the bare shell and in the garage to where I can start on the rear housing and heart surgery. I need to turn this thing from grade school track runner to Olympic track record holder. This build is definatly not for the faint of heart but it will be one awe inspiring machine once all is said and done.

Please leave me any questions comments concerns ideas....what ever!
