Daily Driving

I just picked-up a 1995 Toyota Celica GT. Basic 2.2L engine, and 5 speed manual transmission. While I was driving it home, I notice that I was already going 60 mph and the rpm was at 3000. Is this common, because I thought it was usually at 2,500 when you are cruzing at 60 mph. Please let me know what how it is on your celicas. Thanks!

The gearing on the transmission for the Celica is more aggressive than it is for, say, a Camry with the same 2.2L powerplant. That's why the same engine gets lower fuel mileage on the Celicas than it does on the Camrys.

3000 rpm at 100kmh (or 60mph) is normal.

Not to steal the thread or anything, but I have the exact same question. The only thing is I have a auto and a manual with the 2.2L (just picked up the manual). The cruise speed is like 2300 for 60 on the auto, why such a big difference? What kind of mileage does the 5 speed get?
