89 GT-S problem

hello everyone
i have a 89 celica gt-s non hatch and it has a fairly new(100,000) but knocking
3s-ge and im wondering what it could be its in the top end on the 4th cylinder
and its sounds like 2 valves hitting the piston or a valve from 2nd and 4th cylinder hitting both pistons because it has 2 knocks every revolution
now i have $1000 and dont know what to do with it , i want to rebuild it but i
have been told to do a gte swap but dont know whats needed .

anyone have any opinions on where to get started ?? i can get a gte for under a grand but i would rather rebuild the n/a motor ...

Smile Re: GT-S

Well, if you are interested, I have a competely rebuilt 3SGE engine that came out of an '89 GT-S that has no miles on it, and I need to sell it. As I was getting this engine rebuilt, the car was parked behind the shop, and during one night, someone came and stole the car from the lot. Needless to say, I was sick, but what could I do except report it to the police as stolen, which I did. Anyway, the engine has new pistons, rings, etc.., and also a new clutch attached to it. If you would like to discuss purchasing it, let me know. I live in East Tennessee, near Knoxville.

Re: Engine

I spent a little over $1200 which included parts and labor, but it was rebuilt over a year ago. It is sitting in my garage with all portal openings closed off to prvent dust from entering them. I have pics as well. I still have the Haynes manual for the car, but unfortunately, I believe my receipts got thrown away during spring cleaniung this year! If we could figure out a way to get the engine shipped to you, I would let it go for $600 since I don't have a car to use it in anyway. You could just pay the shipping charge directly to the shipper. Also, you mentioned Paypal. I believe I purchased something off E-Bay from a Canadian seller and it went through with no problem. Just a thought!

If you decide to rebuild, I wish you the best. They are fun cars!

No problem. Keep me in mind. By the way, you wouldn't happen to know anyone in the US that might have an 86-89 Celica GT-S that needs an engine that they want to get rid of, do you? Those cars seem to be hard to locate these days!

Enjoy the rebuild!
