my friend recently got a 93 celica gt convertible - st184 with a 3sgt-e swapped into it, and i took it to the track last friday and broke the stock cv shafts, i was wondering if there were any aftermarket shafts that will handle plenty of torque. say 300-350+ at the wheels, many mods will be going on this car in the winter and dont want the shafts being the weak link.
CRW HD+ Drivers Side Stubshaft: 4130 chromoly, heat treated, cryo treated $525 each
CRW HD+ Drivers Side Stubshaft: 300m, heat treated, cryo treated $650 each
the 300m material is 10-15% stronger than the 4130 chromoly but the builder of these thinks the 4130 won't break ever in our application due to the strength and build profile of each item.
we also have outer CV joint assemblies for these and inner CV joints as well... + all boots, clamps, hardware an can sell pieces or complete axles no problem. the ATS CV joint kit can be used as well and purchased here or directly through ATS and they WILL work with these stubshafts and axle bars and parts.
the CVs can be sold "as is" or can be treated several different ways to increase strength (heat, cryo, WPC).
This is for 500whp. I was going to do it but I am not looking for that kind of power. For 300whp-450whp all you need is an upgrade cage like here, http://www.chicoraceworks.com/gallery/album90.
I have a gen2 3sgte.

Thanks for you time

What transmission is he using? An E153 transmission out of the MR2 Turbo/V6 Camry/V6 Solara setup shouldn't be breaking axles...

according to the one of the previous owners who did the swap, the tranny is a JDM S54. It also has a phantom grip LSD in it.
Do you know what driveshafts were used? The S53 and S54s will both work, but the S54s seem to be a bit more robust. I don't know if that's just a legend or not, though, as i don't have direct experience with the S54.
Is he running on street tires?

stock ceclia GT shafts were used. and yes it's on street tires.
What's done to the car? I can't say that i've heard of too many people with this issue. I mean... it happens. But on an S54, not too often.
Is this convertible by any chance flat black?

Go to Advance Autoparts. Get new axles with a lifetime warrantee for a 6th gen Celica. Put those in. They might break, they might not. If they do, you're covered.
Otherwise... ditch that tranny. Start finding parts for an E153 setup.
And i really hope you're not just dumping the clutch at 3500. That's just asking for it on a prepped drag strip.
You slip the clutch for fastest launch in a fwd car.
