3sgte, 3sge (3rd gen or BEAMS), 1mzfe, 3mzfe, 5sge hybrid...

What are you looking to do?

Well also think about cost first. Anyway the perfect match for the car are 3S-GTE 1st-2nd-3rd gens, 3S-GE 1st-2nd-3rd+Beams, or even a 5S-FE as it's got more power then your 3S-FE.

That or a 5sge hybrid would probably be easiest.

5sfe would be CAKE, and give you some more oomph.

A 1988 3s-ge swap would probably be the simplist, as I beleive the motor will bolt up to the transmission. The GTE should also do the same.

Yeah, it will. It'll need a different flywheel/clutch setup, but the transmission is usable.

Now, whether or not you'd WANT to use it with a 3sgte is kindof debatable, but it should hold up to a stock 3sgte.
