is 1984 celica auto vs stick manual in mpg

Hi, is there a difference on mpg in 5 speed manul vs auto?
my mechanic said that manual can consume more gas on the way people drive.

hmmm.
when i research on the web on older cars. they said that the mpg on a stick is better. is this true?

what is the mpg on a 84 celica?

is the engine of a 84 vs 85 the same?
what are the differences on r re rc?

is this car celica 84 expensive to fix? is the engine cheap?

Auto versus manual MPG according to EPA estimates is usually only 1 MPG less with manual transmissions.

My 85 Celica GT-S Convertible 5spd (22R-EC) gets 32 MPG highway.

Basically 22r is the name of the engine 2.4L engine. There are things that come after the r to define what else is installed on the engine. E = Fuel injection C = Emission control. You can find the information on all the letters on wikipedia

The 22R is a relatively inexpensive engine to fix, which is why I bought it. Good gas mileage, reliable, and inexpensive to repair.

^Did I read that right?
You usually get a bit better mileage with manual over auto, particularly with those older transmissions.
Nowadays, with CVT's and the like, many auto boxes get better mileage than manual.

IIRC, the 84 and 85 GT had 110 and 116 hp respectively with fuel injection.
It also has the face-lift look with the covered headlights, much better looking than the 82-83 versions.

You can find the information on which year celicas had what on wikipedia. As far as Manual vs Auto goes, I won't drive automatic transmissions unless it is a customers car. I know that 83 84 and 85 celicas had the 22R-EC. If I had to pick a celica, I'd pick mine, it was the last year of the RWD celicas. 1985 Celica GT-S Convertible 5spd red with a black and gray interior. I wouldn't change a thing. Also gas mileage is all in how you drive the car. Manual and Auto really don't create much of a noticable difference in gas mileage especially since the engines in cars this old are never flawless and generally two cars with the same engine will not get the same gas mileage.

I also prefer manual only.
Sure gas mileage is all in how you drive, but she's looking for a baseline. So all things being equal, especially with those older cars, manual generally outperforms the auto in gas mileage. The stats bear this out.

If you can find them, go with either the 84 or 85 Celicas for the reasons I stated above, plus the 82 and 83 Celicas were not EFI like the 84 and 85.

My 85 Celica GT will drive around 600km per tank. I usually do 60% Highway and 40% City.

Although my car has little bit over 320,000km, it still has very decent gas mileage. If you are not abusing your car, gas mileage will not really bother you.
