gen 7 Looking at buying a 7thGen with Overhauled..

Looking at buying a 7thGen with Overhauled engine. What does this really mean and what problems could it cause me? Is it worth it or should I avoid it and just spend more for a non overhauled?

Im assuming by overhauled he means built or modified in some way. Ask for a list + receipts of all the work done to the car!

You should have no problems with a modified motor aslong as it's done right.
Sadly when sellers have "overhauled" cars for sale most of the time all it really has is a cold air intake, new coloured spark plug wires, and an exhaust header lol.

Anyways the 1/2zzfe engines respond nicely to mods and you should be okay. Is this car a Celica GT-S or just the GT? And is it manual?

It is a GT 5spd.

He states" 164000 km’s (engine overhauled by Toyota under warranty at 90000 km’s)
Also, the engine overhaul was not required due to bizarre driving."

Thank you for your advice!

Oh I see so the motor would be a 1zzfe and from what I gather he just means the motor was rebuilt under warrenty? This should be perfectly fine in my mind. You could save up and get one that hasn't been rebuilt but why would you? This motor has less technical miles on it because of the rebuild.

It's up to you though, but if it drives nice and you trust the dealership in which the work was done at i'd say go for it.

Here are further details:

1) The engine consumed oil but no blue smoke came out of the exhaust and there was no performance problem.
2) Toyota checked it out and finally concluded the pistons were oval
3) Toyota did the work under warranty
4) They redid the block, replaced the piston rings, deglazed the engine, something about the shaft drive, and a bit more (I couldnt write fast enough)
5) He has all the paperwork as proof

Ok, so with all these details.. buy or wait and buy a celica without a rebuilt?

I'd personally say go for it. It sounds like the job was done right and it shouldn't give you any problems. If however anything does come up you could always swap in the 2zzfe for an extra 40hp haha.

Anyways it's really up for you but i'd say go for it.

Ok, Ill go test drive it tonight then and buy it if all goes well.

Oh, I could buy a GTS with 210 000 km for the only $5500 with leather seats, and a sunroof. Problem is it costs too much in gas and insurance. The GT is my compromise for $6700, lower kms, lower insurance, lower gas, no leather or sunroof.

If you have any intentions of going fast at some point i'd get the GTS... the gas differance isn't alot and you get leather aswell as a sunroof. Insurance can't be that much more so it seems to me like your crazy to pay more for a less car. I'd get the GTS but that's just me.
