Question Sun Roof operations, What does your buttons do??

Our Celica is a 90 It has two buttons on the light to control the sunroof.

We were/are having trouble with ours, and I took it out opened it up and in the process unplugged 3 connections and two electrical sensors and replaced one nylon gear in the gear housing.

Now I put it back in and now all operations work with one button, (with the exception of the screaming track on the drivers side when i try to move it all the way back (that was probably what caused my flat nylon gear))

So now operation goes, press forward on the button near the passenger side- slide to close, but if you don't pull your finger off it then starts and completes the tilt up maneuver..
press backward on the same button, tilt goes down and then after closed it starts the back up maneuver.

How is is suppose to work? is my question. The only inquiry i could find is quoted below.

From a completely closed position, to slide it back (open) you must:
1) Press and hold "Slide back" (this will bring it to approximately the halfway point)
2) Press and hold "Tilt up" (this will bring it to approximately 75% open)
3) Press and hold "slide back" again to bring it all the way back.

To close, the opposite buttons would be pressed.

Is this correct...should there be 3 steps to opening or closing the sunroof?

It works like this. You have two buttons, and lets call the left one button 1 and the right one button 2.

Button 1 will tilt the sun roof up and down when it is completely closed.
Forward closed, backward open.

Button 2 will slide the sun roof open and closed (half way closing the unit will stop for safty reasons and you'll need to repress the button to close)
Forward closed, backeard open.

If you using one button for both operations then you got something mix up.

Probably forgot to install the limit switch wheel or limit switches are broken.
