Overhauled under warranty. Advice please.

So the car I am looking to buy has 160,000km but was overhauled by Toyota under warranty at 85,000km.

Does this make the car worth more or less?

I believe the warrenty is for a year, so how long has it been since the overhaul?

From what I remember it was just a year. In any case, if the car runs good thats all that matters. To answer your question, yes a warrenty add a little but not by much.

Suggest you find out the reason for the overhaul. Was this totally a Toyota problem or did the owner contribute through lack of maintenance.

What exactly was done to the engine? A complete overhaul, just the bottom end (block), was this a Toyota factory rebuilt engine or dealer overhauled engine.

What documentation is there?

If just the bottom end, the cylinder heads may not have been touched such as a valve job, new valve stem seals, etc.

You may have a mixed bag of engine wear.

Would not pay more the car and would be cautious until determining what was done in the overhaul.

Here is what I was told:

1) The engine consumed oil but no blue smoke came out of the exhaust and there was no performance problem.
2) Toyota checked it out and finally concluded the pistons were oval
3) Toyota did the work under warranty
4) They redid the block, replaced the piston rings, deglazed the engine, something about the shaft drive, and a bit more (I couldnt write fast enough)
5) He has all the paperwork as proof

Ok, so with all these details.. buy or wait and buy a celica without a rebuilt?
