so i talked to the guy he said it has a new engine he pulled out of a scrap yard not too long ago, what should i offer? my car is crapin out so i need a new one soon and i think a celica is the way to go
I like it alot, and if he said it's a newer engine with all that other work, then it's seems golden. It seems worth the 3300. If you can get it cheaper, well, that's always good. 2800 cash right now?
Get an all trac turbo if you can.

yea i saw it today while taking my car in for a repair, i looks great im just not sure if its a good deal or not. the scrape looks a bit rough but he said he was gonna fix it. can someone identify the engine it has? i just dont wanna get ripped off pretty much
It has the 5S-FE 2.2 liter DOHC, not the most powerful engine, but it gets the job done. It's more powerful than the engine in the ST. I have the same engine/car and it seems very reliable. I have never broke down or had it towed in 17 years. Not very tweakable although there are some things you can do to the intake and exhaust.
Only real tweaks I have done to the stock engine is put Bosch platinium 4 electrode spark plugs in and synthetic oil, so it fires hard and so I can push the RPMs with little worry, plus a K&N filter in the stock air filter box. Also I have done weight reduction by removing the backseats, FULL SIZE SPARE and jack (about 150lbs) and can kinda hang with faster cars but not really, other 4 bangers can get smoked though. I can definitely feel more power than before the weight reduction. People can still sit in the back with seat belts, just no cushion and my friends can bring my spare tire and jack to me if I actually get a flat that a can of fix-a-flat can't fix.
You can get 2 new plastic fenders with vents and turns signals, plus a carbon fiber hood for about than $600 on ebay and that would be an even much greater weight reduction.

Back seats, full size spare, and jack is about 80lbs or less.
To me, the replaced engine, without knowing the previous owner is something that would make it worth LESS than before. It that engine blew before 200k miles, it was because the car was neglected, and that doesn't bode well for the rest of the car. But that's just my thinking.
At this point, considering you can get a very good 5th gen for $1500 or less, i wouldn't pay that for that car.
But in the end, it's up to you. If you drive it, and it feels great and you feel it's the car for you, then buy it.
Edmunds prices an example of this car in OUTSTANDING shape with this mileage, at $1795. This car is not in outstanding shape. And that's dealer price.
So.... i stand by my original ballpark guess that it was overpriced by $1500. And with the replaced engine, i wouldn't personally pay more than $1500 for it.

yea it was a rainy day. i'll check out the wipers next time. so i think i'll make a 1500 offer and if it doesn't work out i'll just have to wait to find a nice 6g celica which i tend to like better, what should i look for in the 6g's?
Concealer is right, all that stuff is 85 lbs. I weighed it, but that is 85lbs less than stock and you can feel it. How much do you think a new cb hood and plastic fenders weight and how much does stock weight, probably not much diff on the fenders but the hood has got to gain about 30lbs right? I like more power, anyone have any good easy tips?
"car has new shocks and struts all around, new battery, new alternator, both front cv axles. car runs really good, heater and ac system work. tune up was done about 8 months ago. Has new tires and rims on the car they look really good."
I think the above work bumps up the price more than $1500 at least another 1000 or so and then there are the new tires and rims which can be as much as $1500. They look like good rims and the interior looks clean. That is a good point about Edmunds, but the dealer is going to sell my point about the new parts and I think it's a fair price because I think my car runs better than new and I would hate to sell it for less than $5000 that I would never ever get. It cost 17000 new and I want more I have done all the work the dealer mentioned and it costs $800 just for those parts. That's 2300 total (1500 + 800), then there are the tires and rim which look beter than the ones they had at pep boys for a $500 package deal, which brings my total to "$2800 cash right now."
Take it for a test drive and see if it idles around 650 or 700. Then try shifting fast at 5000 RPM into 3rd, just to see if it's ok or something blows/slips/studders .

I know what happened with the wipers, somebody else was test driving it that day and shut the car off before turning the wipers off. Better get it quick................ ohhhhhhhhhhhhh the pressure. lol
Not sure about the 6th gens, I know the GT doesn't have the 5S-FE but I think some 6gs do? Any 6G dawgs out there?

The 90-93 Celica GT and GT-S comes with the 5S-FE. The 6gens GT also comes with the 5S-FE. You should always get the car you want instead of resorting to your second choice if don't need too. If you are to get a 5 gen, I would perfer you trying finding the GT-S as for stock it has a better suspension setup and its a tad bit better with the hatch and wide fenders ala All-Trac style. You could always hope on www.alltrac.net and check the for sale section for an alltrac.

It's the same suspension setup as a GT, with very slightly different spring rates to offset the huge weight increase.
That being said.... they do look better, after you fill out the hellacious fender overhang with the puny stock wheel/tire combo.
And a fully loaded GTS has an interior and stereo worth spending extra coin for if you're into comfort luxury, and all those things that make your car slower. I would LOVE a GTS for a daily driver.
But.... a stock GT, especially a coupe will spank a GTS around pretty much any course you care to run.
It all depends on what you want to do.
