Buying a 92 Celica GT 5FSE,need advice(Updated!help)
Im going to buy a 92 GT, 5 speed manual.
its been sitting for about 6 months in a non running condition.
has a blown headgasket, ive only replaced one head gasket before, and it was on a SOHC Honda Civic.
I know i can do it, i got a knack for this type of thing, and ill have help from my friends who've done this a lot before.
heres my question: Im buying it for $500, he said everything else is ok, just the head gasket is blown, cosmetics are in good condition also.
What do you think? good deal? Im going to make it a project car, and do a swap of the engine in about a year or so, but, what do you think? good deal? no? yes? just do it like nike?
let me know, thanks.

If everything like the body and interior is in good same then $500 is a really good deal. Might as well just forget replacing the headgasket and go stright for the 3S-GTE swap.
only problem is, i'd have to get about $800 for my old car(which i think i will) and then get the rest of the cash for the 3S-GTE,also got to find out how much one is lol.
Well now that ive had a chance to talk with the previous owner a little more, i found out that he was driving it one day, and all of the sudden the top radiator hose came off. Coolant splashing everywhere, no fun.
I guess in the midst of all this, the sensors connect to what i think is the thermostat, were broken off, he replaced those, but the car still didnt start. He originally said there was water/oil in the cylinders.
But what i am thinking it is now, is that he somehow blew the engine,or maybe when the hose blew, he kept driving it, causing it to overheat, there for ruining it and now the engine is pretty much toasted, an not just the head gasket.
Is it worth replacing the head gasket($80) and seeing if it works, or what???? Need advice here. And if so, if i got an engine from a Tarko(sp?) how would i go about finding/contacting one in my area?

That engine will probably need a rebuild if he ran it for any length of time.
Either rebuild it, or grab a longblock from the junkyard for like $200.
3sgte isn't really financially feasible unless you're looking for over 300whp.

my thoughts exactly.
I honestly dont think i have the time to rebuilding the engine, so im going to look into it. I actually found one with low miles on ebay, free shipping, comes with tranny etc etc, $449. Not bad.
And i do want to eventually put a 3S-GTE in there, because it is my project car, but not for awhile, maybe a year or so? Right now, just focusing on getting it running, after that, performance will come into play.
