Where is keyless entry module?

After I replaced the battery on my daughters '96 Celica the alarm went off. I got the alarm to stop going off but now the keyless entry function has stopped working.

It has a red light and a switch where the fuses are located and I'm trying to reset it so the keyless will work and having no luck.

Can anyone tell me where the keyless module might be located so I can find out who made the keyless so I can find out how to reset it?

Any info would be very helpful. Thanks Much!

Usually, the alarm brain has a wire that goes to the door lock trigger wire and grounds the wire to activate the door locks. Maybe you reset the alarm and now it needs reprogrammed with the remote and some other button, but alarms should not lose settings when power is gone. Check for a model number on the alarm then obtain a manual. Do the door locks work with the switch on the door? Check fuses?

The wires for lock and unlock are blue and blue\red respectively. The door lock module is to the right of the steering column.

PittsburghCeli, Thanks for the info and the the12volt.com link. Very good stuff.

I found the make and model # after locating the module deep under the dash. It's a Rostra, Model # APSR. Thanks for the help on that.

I'm operating under the idea that the unit is functioning correctly and simply the removal and reinstall of the engine starting battery has necessitated a "Reset" of the keyless system.

The system was installed when I purchassed the car and the arm/disarm sequence is unknown to me. I feel like this is the problem because I get an alarm response when I unhook and then reattach the engine battery. I can turn the alarm off by flipping the toggle switch but nothing I do after will restore the Keyless function.

So I'm thinking there is a procedure to Re-Arm the system. I'm sure it is a simple sequence but I just don't know what it is : )

Thanks again for your help, Rick

Your welcome. You can always install a new alarm with remote start for about $50-70 on ebay and do it in a weekend or get one with just keyless entry cheaper and install that in a few hours. I had to remove my alarm and install a new one a while back because it was malfunctioning and stopping my car from starting sometimes, just sometimes when it was really hot. It took me about a year to troubleshoot it. I kept looking in the engine compartment, wiggling wires, thinking why, why!!! Finally in dawned on me that I have a stupid car alarm that could be the suspect and sure enough that was the end of my problem. I learned a lot about car wiring and enjoyed installing the new alarm. I even have remote start on my manual transmission with a switch to enable or disable the clutch which also makes me more conscious of when I have it enabled. The first day I remote started it in gear and it rolled across the street and got hung up on the curb. Forgot it was in gear. My neighbor saw it hung up, but no damage done so I played it off like nothing to see here. I am an electronics field tech so I got an alarm with all the bells and whistles. But stupid me disabled the automatic arming and someone hit and ran on my car when it was parked in a supermarket lot. Scuffed my bumper cover, fender and cracked my side maker and turn signal. I got the FM 2way alarm and if I had it on I would have gotten a page on my keychain. Then I would have ran somebody down in the lot to collect money. I drive about 100 miles a day in my 91, parking at supermarkets all day so my car needs a paint job and it also needed new lights so I am not totally pissed. I can't tell you how many times I have been sitting in my car and someone parks next to me then bangs my door exiting or entering their car. They don't even say sorry or look. People are so rude! I must have 15 dings on each side of my car which is going to be another project. Now, if they bump it at all the alarm goes off and I come running. I even have the microwave sensor installed so I can leave the windows open in the summer without worrying about someone reaching in. I kinda run my own little sting operation now. lol enough ranting today...
