helo did engine swap ingene wont turn over. 93 celica

Hey there im posting for the first time in hopes that someone can give some good advice.

i just did an engine swap from a 5sfe to a 3sfe. everything is plugged in and reconnected. When i attempt to start the car the car is starting but the engine wont turn over. I checked for spark already i checked the fuel line to the fuel filter, seems i am getting fuel, and the engine was set to top dead center when i replaced the cap and rotor.

is there anything im missing? any help would be great.

Do you mean the engine turns over but won't start? And you are getting fuel but no spark?

The only thing I can think of is the timing maybe. Maybe it's off and that is why the engine almost starts but doesn't make it to idle? Move the distributor up a little then try to start it. Should be timed at 10 BTDC. Maybe the fuel injectors are de-primed, like when you run out of gas and continue to try to start the car, de-priming the fuel injectors? Then when gas is put in the car it still doesn't start. Not sure how to re-prime but just a guess. All just guesses, I am not the engine guru on here and with a swap everything is going to be a guess.

thanks for the replys

I have spark and fuel and it is at tdc. i will set it to ten before tdc see what that does. I will also check of repriming the fuel.

I read that if i spray starter fluid in the intake manifold when trying to start the car and it turns over then its a fuel problem. im thinking ill try that too.

Is that harmful to my vehicle though? thanks for the quick replys very helpful. ill keep you updated.

So you are getting fuel and spark, but the engine won't run, is that what is happening?

as far as i know yes. i know im getting spark, did the spark test. as far as the fuel im pretty sure its there. i took off the fuel line from the fuel pump and some fuel leeked out, so that tells me that there is fuel going to the filter at least. however im not to sure if its making it to the fuel lines? is there a way to check and see if the fuel is making it all the way to the injectors? also when my other engine died on me and i tried to start the car i could hear some exhaust coming out of the exhaust. now i dont hear anything so im thinking that the engine isnt getting enough air intake, im going to spend most the day on it tomorrow rechecking spark fuel and compression. any other ideas of tips would be great. thanks

J.

Do you have a Check Engine light while cranking?

You can check for fuel pressure by gently crack loose one of the fuel line, with the key off after cranking the engine over. If you get a good spray, the fuel pressure is sufficient.

if your not getting any exhaust but getting air that sounds like your timing is off.
If you have the ability to check compression.
