2 part all trac ?

I have 2 Questions about the alltrac celica trans.
sorry if there has been alot of alltrac questions .

#1. I have a 89 celica GTS that needs a Engine and trans. I find alot of 3sgte engines paired with the all-trac trans.. can I use the all-track trans in my non alltrack GTS . I would like to save a bit of money by doing this(will the rear drive outlet pose a prob?)

#2. Dose anyone know what rear gears the all-track celicas run in the rear? A source would be helpful. ( not a rear end swap source ,a gear ratio source.) I am thinking of doing a custom 94Tercel with all-track by using a strait axle in the rear of the tercel . as long as I get the Right gear in the rear this seems very possible.

any info or comments welcome.

#1) Seriously, don't be silly; do it right.
I don't know of anyone who has done what you're proposing, but I believe you can use the AWD 3SGTE tranny on your FWD Celica -with modifications.
It may bump the floor pan; you may have to block off some portions of it; you may have to monkey around and source out CV axles and clutch + pressure plate combinations to get it to work.

It sounds like way more trouble than it's worth and it'll give you some extra weight. In fact, with the improvised parts, it may even cost you more. 3SGE trannys are cheap, I'd just go that way; less hassle, less headache.

#2) Go to www.alltrac.net for the gears information. Can't comment on your other proposal.

Good luck.

I didnt think about the the pressure plates. I assume you said that because the power to the front and rear wheels must not be a locked in 50/50 ratio.

If I rebuild the 89 tranny do you think It would hold up to 265hp

Clutch and PP are different from 162 to 165 and I'm not sure how the the AWD tranny would transfer all the power in your scenario.

A lot of guys do the 3SGTE + FWD tranny without problems running HP in that neighborhood. I'm not on expert on it, so take it with a grain of salt.

If you can rebuild the tranny, go for it. The 2nd gear synchro is weak and is usually "crunchy" on higher mileage Celicas. You can find used trannys for $50 to $100.
