1992 Celica Gt Plz HELP!!

Well this is my first car and i honestly dont know much about it. It's got 147K on the engine but is in great condition, no wrecks, the only damage on the car is a rip in the passanger seat and the previous owner buffed through the clear coat...haha but im getting it painted right now and would like to start work on the engine but dont realy know what i can do. My dad is a cop so he wont let me do anything unless its smog legal and I have to be able to afford it.

Well Basics first.

Exhaust
Header
Cold Air Intake
Fresh Paint Sounds Nice.
Coilovers
Suspension.

You looking to buy suspension. I have eibach Sportline Springs and KYB Shocks and Struts off my 1992 Toyota Celica Brand new. Front where put on car. Sat in the shop doing 3SGTE swap. Swap never got finished bought 1992 Toyota Celica All Trac now i have no use for these. Brand new letting them go pretty cheap.

Ok, in this case you are kinda of out luck for having a dad as a cop but thats a good thing as he'll keep you out of trouble. The only mods you can do is a proper intake kit that is carb legal which I'm sure they have. As for the headers kiss that good bye as their is no street legal headers for the 5s-ge motor. As for the exhaust just make sure its a high quailty unit that isn't too loud. Upgrade the suspension but check the amount of drop you put on, there is a limit before its no longer legal. I don't remeber the exact specs but you could ask your dad, he should know. As for you head lights don't get any of that ebay crap and H4 headlight as they are not DOT approve and is not legal. Plus those lights doesn't help at all as you will lose visablity over stock. The best upgrade you can get that is legal that is way better in performance over those cheap ebay and H4 conversion set is the Silverstar units. California has a lot of laws but if you do it right, your car can still fast with great performance and be street legal. I got my old 89 supra turbo running 300+ hp (raced a couple of 97+ vettes and hange with it, but didn't beat so estimating it to be 300+ hp) and it was street legal and passed smog with no problem. It can be done and all it takes is proper setup and research. The truth is that being street legal does cost, so you'll need some extra cash, and now is a good time to get a second job.
