Toyota Celica 2003 new headlight went out

Hi everyone. New here. Just replaced low beams like a month ago. During a rainy day the drivers side headlight went out, even though it was new. I hear to check the fuses. How do I know the fuses are bad? If it isn't the fuses, should I keep wasting money on new lightbulbs? I'm a newbie amatuer at all this. Help would be great.

when you look at the fuse, check to see if there is a break in the filament (the metal band inside it) and also if it's black or melted in any way. those signs mean the fuse is shot. your fuse box will have a diagram on it showing which fuse is for what. if it's not the fuse that is the problem, then get it fixed at a shop instead of constantly buying headlight bulbs.

You have to be very careful when installing them and use bulb grease. Do not touch the bulb when installing it! Use the bulb grease anywhere water can get in! The bulb is getting contaminated. Any new bulb will fail if it get contaminated and it's easy to contaminate. The are very sensative to contamination through any holes that lead to the bulb, but don't grease up the vent holes on the bulb itself.

tap the headlight and see if it comes on. i think my harness had loose wiring or something wrong. i had this same issue and i rechecked all connections. all good. one day, i closed the hood and it came back on. from then on, i tapped it when it went off. very odd. i was selling it, so i didn't look further.

headlight contamination

I work in the glass industry and since your bulb failed prematurely it
is probably is contamination issue. The most common problem is that
during installation you touched it with your fingers. If the oil from your
skin (even a tiny bit) gets on the surface of the quartz envelope of the
bulb it will cause the quarts glass to divitrify. Divitrification is a process
by which crystabolite is formed on the surface of the glass. This crystaline
form of quartz forms on and around the uncontaminated surface of the
quartz causes a slight difference in expansion and contraction, thus causing
cracks in the surface and throught the inside of the glass envelope letting
air into the filament. When air gets to the filament the wire burns hotter
and hotter until it burns itself apart. And thus, your bulb fails. So, to summarize, do not ever touch the surface of the quartz glass envelope
that your bulb is made with.

Best regards and good luck.

Light Housing Leaking

I had a similar incident with a different car, but perhaps it's the same problem you're having. I discovered a burnt out headlight on a pontiac minivan, and promptly replaced it. 2 weeks later, in the rain, I was pulled over for having the same burnt out light. I'd bought the car used, and there was a pack of bulbs in it when I bought it, so it became clear that they were there not out of courtesy, but rather out of necessity. Fortunately, the next day it was still raining and I discovered the headlight casing had a couple of centimeters of water inside it. Upon closer examination, I discovered it was cracked along the top and side edge, allowing water to enter and collect. I surmised that the cold water sloshing around inside the housing, contacted the hot bulb, burning it out. I purchased some high temperature gasket sealer, removed the headlight housing from the vehicle and applied the sealer to the crack.... I tested to make sure it was sealed properly by submerging the housing in a sink full of water, and when I was satisfied, I replaced it on the vehicle. No water gets in now when it rains, and I haven't had a problem with the light since.
