drum break tightening

i put in new break shoes and now they dont have that EMERGENCY stopping power that they use too the old shoes wernt steel to steel so im thinking its that littel star wheel that needs adjustment?

Correct. You need to adjust the star wheel. It can be done through the access plug but it's a pain. I usually remove the drum and adjust the star wheel until the drum barely fits back on, then maybe get a turn or 2 out of the star wheel from the outside.
