1990 celica rod knocking

I have what I believe is a rod knocking. The car was run low on oil. It is a 1990 celica st with a 1.6. The car is very stock. Do I replace the engine or rebuild it. I would like to try and get a little bit more power if possible. This will be done on a budget, and most likely by me. What do you think?

If a rod knocking the crank bearing journal may be damaged from the hammering. You might be able to grind the crank under size but will first need to check the damage.

Just grab another 4afe bottom end out of a junkyard.

Not worth rebuilding, not worth rebuilding for more power.

If you want more power, swap the car to a 20v 4age.

I had two 4afe engines die due to the same sort of problem. Both engines had a stuck lifter that sounded horrible like a severe rod knock. Get a whole working engine it's not worth fixing.
