Well I've posted the problem on newcelica.org but no help so far from them. I messaged a friend on another forum and he reccomended me to this website.
Here go's.
The car is running lean. Throwing codes:
P0171
P0300
P0301
P0171
I've changed the spark plugs, I've cleaned the MAF, and I've swaped coil packs from cylinder 1 to 4 to see if that solved the problem. But it did not.
Now here is the kicker.
I've started the car about 30 or so times I'd say.
When I stop for fuel the car is VERY hard to start after filling up. Every other time it fires up first or second crank, when I get gas I have to sit there and crank the car for about 10-15 seconds before it will start then after that it's perfect.
When I push in the clutch and roll to a stop at a light or sign the engine rpms will drop to about 500 and the lights will get dim.
Also when I have the hood up you can VERY subtly hear a strange sound over the valve clatter, the only way I know to describe the sound is compressed air being let out in very small bursts. (Maybe the injector?)
Thats all the symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Interesting, it is a pdf file for the Celica with the same codes that you are having because of an intake manifold leak. Try this, do a search of this site for 'P0171', look for the threads in the Corolla forum, they have the same engine as you do with a similar TSB but under a different number. Will try to see if there is another way to get the one for the Celica.
you may be able to swing by a local dealer and ask for a copy of that TSB.
# TSB #04607 -- M.I.L. (ON) DTC P0171, P030#, AND/OR P0133 ENGINE RUNNING LEAN IN SUBFREEZING AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. *NJ (NHTSA ID #10023618, OCTOBER 27 2007)
it does cover the codes, but doesnt sound like the conditions. i don't have an easy way to email you the info, i can't copy/past from the programs at the shop and i'll have forgotten by monday.
