1992 Celica GT timing belt question

On a 1992 Celica GT Conv, if the timing belt goes out while the engine is running will this destroy any of the engine parts? I know some cars can lose a timing belt and it will not effect any of the engine parts, but other cars it will effect the other engine parts, just not sure on this 92 Celica.

Thanks

You won't have a problem other than a tow on any of the older Toyota engines. The 3.3 V6 is the ONLY interference engine that I know of in the lineup. I have heard of some of the MR2 Turbo and Celica GTS turbo's bending valves but I have never seen it.

I had exactly this happen on the 93 (DPO lied about belt changes). I had it dragged home, changed the belts and water pump, and drove it to work the next day. While the 5SFE isn't perfect, it is sturdy and well-designed.
