92 celica gt won't start

I have a 92 celica gt. The car died while I was driving it and now it wont start. I had a shop diagnose it as a bad ingniter. I have put in a new distributor, rotor, cap, and igniter and the car still won't start. I also checked that all the fuses under the hood are still good. I'm still not getting any spark from the distributor. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Timing belt broke? Have you check to see if the distributor is turning when you crank the engine over. GT, you have the 5s-fe, right?

Got it done

Had a 92 Celica that conked out and would not start, no spark, after putting in a new distributor and ignition module (ignitor). Well, after installing the new ignitor onto the bracket and then screwed the bracket back onto the firewall...the engine fired right up. Guess the ignitor needed the ground from the bracket afterall. Lesson learned, always put back everything the way ya find it. Not sure if it was the ignitor or distributor that caused the initial problem, but am keeping them both. Figure that a new ignitor will work best with a new distributor. Don't want the old distributor conking out anytime soon (1650K miles on it).

Coil?

i've had my share of ignition problems, most of the time it is the igniter that craps out so good checking there. the last problem i had was one of the magnetic pickups inside the distributor went out but if you've replaced that, there shouldn't be any problems. did the new distributor come with a coil? most 2.2's had the internal coil and sometimes new distributors dont come with them.

another possibility is the fuel pump. if that goes out sometimes the entire fuel and ignition system completely shuts down, it will crank just fine but no spark anywhere and no fuel. the only way i could say to check it is to sit and crank it for 15-20 seconds then stop and get out of the car and smell the air around the muffler. if you smell gas then the fuel pump is obviously working. if you don't smell gas you have an idea on where to start.

Good luck dude and remember: Never underestimate the sweetest sound in the world, an engine starting. You never know how much you like that sound until you don't hear it.

I am having a similar problem with a 93 Celica ST. It died and will not start. Timing belt is good, I have fuel pressure, have spark on all cylinders, and am getting a code 21 and 31 (oxygen sensor and MAF) on the computer. Cat is NOT plugged. I have fuel, compresion (140+ in all cylinders), and spark. Any thoughts? Would a BAD MAP sensor keep the vehicle from starting?

Thanks!

Neither one would cause a no start condition for the engine, running problem maybe. Just because you have spark and fuel doesn't mean that the timing is correct or it has a good strong spark. Check the static timing on the distributor, and the resistance of the ignition coil and distributor pickup coil.

I had the same problem a while ago. i had put a new O2 sensor in the exhasut and just used some male/female connectors on the wire. long story short there was too much slack in the wire and it got caught in the cooling fan and disconnected the male/female connectors. the check engine light came on for a good quarter mile then the car just shut down. everything under the hood checked out fine, spark, fuel, timing... then i saw a loose wire and reconnected the O2 sensor and it started and ran fine.

I'd say check the O2 sensor first. Check the wires to make sure there's no breaks or cracks in the wire. pull the O2 sensor out and check it, if it's extremely dirty you might want to replace it.

in terms of the MAP sensor i'm not too sure, the only advice i can give would be to check all the hoses attached to it for breaks and try to check if something is pinching or clogging them.
